Cesium ion A Cesium ion account is recommended: terrain, aerial imagery, Google 3D Tiles and your cloud models stream through it, and the free Community plan is enough to try geoBIM. Without it you still get a world map globe, local tilesets and the demo scenes. Create a free account

Data

Your data, three ways in

Stream from Cesium ion

Your 3D Tiles, terrain, imagery and photogrammetry from your Cesium ion account, plus Google Photorealistic 3D Tiles. Sign in once, pick an asset, and it's in place.

Convert on your PC preview

IFC models and point clouds (LAS, LAZ, E57, PLY, XYZ) become 3D Tiles with the built-in geoBIM Tiler. No upload, nothing leaves your machine, IFC properties stay attached to every element.

Open local 3D Tiles

Point geoBIM at any folder with a tileset.json, from any tool, and it loads right away.

The toolbar

Everything a design review needs

Element info I

Click an element to see its class, name, GlobalId, storey and all property sets.

Hide elements H

Take single walls, slabs or façade panels out of the view to look inside.

Measure

Distance, area, height above terrain, vertical difference and coordinates.

Annotations

Pins, circles, lines and areas with category and priority, clickable in the scene.

Clipping

Cut holes into the terrain for foundations, tunnels and excavation pits.

Google 3D Tiles

Photorealistic buildings, trees and bridges worldwide as the built environment, streamed via Cesium ion. One click switches between terrain and Google 3D Tiles.

Terrain & imagery

Switch to your own DGM from Cesium ion; choose Bing, Google or Sentinel imagery, or add your own WMS/WMTS map services (official aerial imagery, cadastral maps, ...) as base layer or overlay.

Scenes

Save models, view, hidden elements, measurements, lights, weather and time together.

Walk mode G

Walk through the model at eye level with mouse, keyboard or gamepad.

Camera flights

Orbit, flyover, reveal or a tour of your saved views, generated around the model, optionally as a time-lapse of the sun.

Video export

Record a flight as an MP4 in Full HD with the geoBIM logo, with or without the panels.

Materials

Realistic steel, concrete, masonry, asphalt and timber surfaces for models that carry a material property per element.

What it does

Geospatial context for your BIM projects

Planning, construction and infrastructure teams use geoBIM to see models in context: on the actual terrain, in the actual built environment, at the actual time of day.

Auto-light: a light for every IFC light fixture, at night
Sunset · real sun position, volumetric clouds and live wind at a wind turbineImagery: Microsoft Bing

Day, night, weather and light

The sun follows the real date, time and location. Weather brings volumetric clouds, rain, snow and fog. At night, place your own lights or let geoBIM light the scene for you.

  • Point, spot and area lights in lumens and Kelvin
  • Auto-light from OpenStreetMap street lamps and roads
  • Lights for every IFC light fixture and room

Put every model exactly where it belongs

Move, turn and scale any tileset with a gizmo, typed coordinates or pick & drop. For local tilesets the new position can be written into tileset.json, so every other 3D Tiles viewer shows it in the same place.

  • East / north / up arrows and a turning ring, 0.1 m and 5° steps with Shift
  • Georeferenced: positions survive origin shifts and are saved in scenes
  • The original tileset.json is kept as a backup

Your data, your terrain

Stream from Cesium ion or point geoBIM at a folder of 3D Tiles on your disk. Use your own high-resolution DGM as terrain; it fits seamlessly into the global terrain.

  • Local tilesets need no upload
  • Import IFC and point clouds (LAS, LAZ, E57, PLY, XYZ): converted on your PC into 3D Tiles, placed by their georeferencing or where you look (preview)
  • IFC classes, GlobalIds and property sets stay attached to every element
  • Google Photorealistic 3D Tiles via Cesium ion as the surrounding city
  • Bing, Google and Sentinel imagery on any terrain
  • Your own WMS and WMTS map services, with presets for open government data

Try everything, keep it if it works for you

The trial has every tool and no time limit. It only limits how much you can keep and export. For terrain and imagery each user signs in with their own Cesium ion account.

What's new in 1.0-beta.3

  • Code-signed (publisher: Lorenz Christof Josef)
  • Sign-in dialog on first start: connect Cesium ion in a few clicks
  • Works without Cesium ion: a globe with the TopPlusOpen world map instead of an empty view
  • WMS/WMTS layers: your own map services or presets, as base layer or overlay with opacity
  • Sharper UI on high-DPI screens
  • Fixed a crash when flying to a freshly loaded model

geoBIM Desktop 1.0-beta.3

The beta is available to a limited number of testers. We review every request and send your personal download link by e-mail, usually within a few working days. In return we are grateful for your feedback.

Recommended: create your own Cesium ion account.

geoBIM does not include map streaming. Terrain, imagery and Google 3D Tiles come from your personal Cesium ion account; geoBIM asks you to sign in on first start. Without an account you get a plain globe with a world map. The free Community plan is enough for testing; for commercial use check Cesium's plans and terms.

Create a free Cesium ion account →
  1. Create your own free Cesium ion account at ion.cesium.com (recommended).
  2. Download the ZIP and unpack it anywhere. On the first start, Windows may install the Microsoft runtime libraries once.
  3. Start GeoBIMTrial.exe; a short tour explains the tools. geoBIM Desktop is code-signed (publisher: Lorenz Christof Josef). Because the certificate is new, Windows SmartScreen may still show a warning for the first downloads - click “More info” and then “Run anyway”.
  4. Sign in with Cesium ion when geoBIM asks (or click “Later”) and load one of the demo scenes, or choose a folder with your own 3D Tiles.
